Manappuram Finance Group CTO Narayanan Easwaran Steps Down
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Narayanan Easwaran left his position as group chief technology officer at Manappuram Finance on November 7, after completing the required three-month notice period. In a company filing reported by Tech Observer, he attributed the decision to the role’s travel demands, geographical constraints and related health concerns.

Easwaran resigned on August 7. Writing to Manappuram Finance chairman V. P. Nandakumar, he explained that the job’s demands had made it hard to continue meeting its expectations. Manappuram Finance reported the resignation in filings with the BSE and National Stock Exchange.

Manappuram Finance has yet to name a successor or outline interim plans for the group CTO role, according to the filing described by Tech Observer. The departure leaves the company managing a leadership change in technology, which supports the financial services group’s core gold-backed lending business.

Easwaran said he would spend his notice period handing over current technology work and key roadmap decisions to the group’s technology leaders. He also offered to brief his successor and answer questions after his departure. The arrangement gave the company time to record project details and clarify responsibilities before his resignation took effect.

The group CTO matters because technology underpins both customer services and the work happening inside the business. Digital lending platforms and core systems need constant attention, as do cybersecurity, data management, and service availability. When those systems fail, lenders can disrupt customer access and their own day-to-day operations.

Manappuram Finance appointed Easwaran in March 2026, saying he would build secure, scalable technology platforms that could support growth while strengthening customer trust. According to the report, he had more than 25 years of experience in banking technology and IT strategy, including senior positions at Equitas Small Finance Bank, IDFC FIRST Bank, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

The company competes in a financial services market where lenders are spending heavily on digital platforms and attracting customers. Strong technology leadership can keep those efforts aligned, but day-to-day continuity rests on more than one executive: experienced teams, clear project records, trusted vendor relationships and sound governance all matter. Work already under way will not stop simply because leadership changes, although the company will need a succession plan.

Manappuram Finance is undergoing broader organisational changes after Bain Capital’s investment. Tech Observer reported that Bain agreed to invest about ₹4,385 crore in the company in 2025 and received regulatory approval for joint control in 2026. The resignation notice referred to personal reasons and health concerns related to travel, but it offered no evidence linking the resignation to the ownership changes.

The disclosure identifies Easwaran as part of senior management. Listed companies must notify stock exchanges about certain significant leadership changes, so investors may now look for news about a successor or an explanation of how the technology function will be handled.

Customers mainly want to know whether their usual services will keep running. Based on the filing, no interruption has been reported. What the leadership change means in practice will hinge on the division of responsibilities and completion of the transition plan.

Easwaran’s resignation ends his brief stint at Manappuram Finance, which started in March. The company must now keep its technology programmes moving while deciding who will take on, or be designated for, the group leadership role. More details from Manappuram Finance would clarify the succession plan.
