TRAI Introduces Network Anubhav: Indians Can Now Compare Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL Network Performance by Location
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority has launched Network Anubhav, an online platform that brings together information about mobile and broadband performance across locations. The dashboard allows users to explore test results by service provider and technology, drawing on data from TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications as well as the regulator’s own drive tests. The platform is intended to make local network information easier to view and compare.

The launch addresses a practical challenge for telecom customers: service quality can vary from one neighbourhood to another. A provider may offer strong coverage in one area and weaker performance nearby, while a single national or city-wide average may not reveal the experience at a particular home, office or travel route. Network Anubhav is designed to let users inspect results geographically, rather than relying only on broad claims or isolated anecdotes.

According to DD India, the platform presents location-specific results for mobile and fixed broadband. Users can examine download and upload speeds by provider and technology, with maps, filters, tables and downloadable reports. The dashboard combines consumer-generated tests with results from independent drive tests conducted by TRAI. Bringing those sources together gives users more context than a single type of measurement could provide on its own.

Consumer-generated measurements can help show how networks perform in places where people actually use them. But individual tests are affected by conditions such as the handset, signal strength, indoor walls, network congestion and the time of day. A slow result at one moment does not necessarily mean a provider’s network is consistently slow, just as a fast result does not guarantee the same performance everywhere. This is why TRAI cautions that user-generated results are not a complete assessment under one standardised testing method.

Independent drive tests offer another kind of evidence. They can provide measurements gathered using planned routes and more controlled procedures, allowing comparison across locations. Combining such tests with user submissions can broaden the picture, though the two data sources should still be understood according to how each was collected. Network Anubhav displays indicators and maps that can help users explore the data, but customers should consider the measurement method and sample coverage before drawing conclusions about service quality.

The platform may also help consumers ask more informed questions when choosing or evaluating a provider. Someone moving to a new neighbourhood could look at available results for that area. A household considering a fixed broadband connection may compare providers where data is available. A business planning connectivity for a particular site could use the dashboard as an initial reference, while still conducting its own tests before making a decision. The results are useful as a guide, not a guarantee of future performance.

For telecom operators, location-level information can point to areas where users report weak speeds or call quality. That may help identify places for further investigation and network improvements. However, the dashboard’s public data should not be interpreted as a definitive ranking unless the underlying sampling and measurement conditions support such a comparison. Differences in the volume of tests between areas or providers can affect how representative the data is.

DD India also reports that Network Anubhav provides access to Do Not Disturb services through a web interface. That feature broadens the platform beyond network performance, giving consumers a digital route to related telecom services. The main purpose of the dashboard, however, is to make network test information more visible and accessible.

The platform’s value will depend on how regularly the data is updated, how much coverage it provides and whether consumers can interpret the measurements clearly. Transparency is most useful when users can see where the data came from, how recent it is and what limitations apply. TRAI’s caution about user-generated results is therefore an important part of the launch: the dashboard can inform comparisons, but it cannot remove the local and moment-to-moment variation that shapes telecom service.

Consumers can use Network Anubhav as one input when evaluating connectivity, alongside their own experience and providers’ service details. Its maps and reports make network information easier to inspect, while the combination of public submissions and regulator testing offers more than a single source alone. The platform is a step toward greater visibility into telecom performance, with the quality of its insight depending on the data and the care with which it is interpreted.
