Samsung, the multinational conglomerate, has launched significant enhancements to its Samsung Wallet app in India, allowing consumers to experience a seamless UPI setup during new Galaxy phone activation and biometric authentication for payments.
The updated feature, emphasising a more consumer-friendly digital payments platform, was this update. Samsung Wallet adds the ability to onboard UPI accounts directly during the new device setup process on Galaxy smartphones. There is no need for consumers to register a UPI account after the phone is activated. This eliminates users’ hesitation to be fully payment-ready. The integration is the first of its kind by any OEM in India and further propels UPI adoption by Galaxy users.
In addition, the Samsung Wallet has incorporated biometric authentication for UPI transactions, delighting users. Users can now fingerprint or use Face ID to authorise transactions without entering PINs each time. Samsung notes that this development has combined biometric authentication with Samsung Knox security and friction-free transactions. Thirdly, Samsung Wallet also allows direct online payments via tokenised credit and debit cards stored in it. The technology reduced checkout time while maintaining security.
Furthermore, the Tap & Pay feature now includes FOREX cards from WSFx Global Pay, enabling international contactless payments. The AU bank cards have been added as new partners to the Tap & Pay feature. Overall, the Samsung Wallet remains the universal gateway for Galaxy device users, housing their digital keys, payment cards, IDs, and travel tickets in one app. Notably, these innovations redefine convenience — from device setup to daily transactions —making the Samsung Wallet the ultimate platform for digital transactions and identity.
