In a recent development that has left many subscribers disheartened, Reliance Jio has discontinued its widely favored prepaid plans priced at Rs 395 and Rs 1559. Renowned for providing unlimited 5G data along with extended validity, these plans were a preferred choice for users seeking economical long-term data solutions.
This decision by the telecom giant comes in the wake of a substantial tariff increase. To address potential revenue losses stemming from an uptick in recharges prior to the price adjustment, Jio has chosen to phase out these popular offerings.
The Rs 395 plan, which boasted 84 days of validity, and the Rs 1559 plan, offering an impressive 336 days of service, both included unlimited 5G data, making them particularly attractive for heavy data users.
Effective July 3, 2024, Reliance Jio has announced a notable increase in its prepaid tariff plans as part of its strategy to enhance Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and improve profitability within a competitive telecom landscape. The base Rs 155 plan will see a 22% increase, rising from Rs 155 to Rs 189. This adjustment signals Jio’s transition towards higher pricing for its services, aimed at sustaining its extensive 5G network while continuing to deliver value to its customers.
Under the new pricing structure, the base monthly plan, which previously offered 2 GB of data over 28 days for Rs 155, will now be available for Rs 189. Additionally, users opting for the plan that provides 1 GB of data daily for the same validity period will experience a price increase from Rs 209 to Rs 249. The plan offering 1.5 GB of daily data will rise from Rs 239 to Rs 299, while the 2 GB per day plan will increase from Rs 299 to Rs 349.
Long-term plans have also seen significant price hikes. The three-month plans with daily data offerings of 1.5GB, 2GB, and 3GB have become more expensive, and annual plans have faced even steeper increases. Notably, the previously budget-friendly 336-day plan with 24GB of daily data has experienced a considerable price surge, while the annual 365-day plan with 2.5GB of daily data has seen the most drastic increase, now costing Rs 600 more than before.
