In a historic performance, India’s automotive sector reached its zenith in October 2025, when all major automakers reported their best-ever monthly sales, driven by robust sales during the festive season and immediate gains from the first GST rate reductions. Passenger cars, SUVs, two-wheelers, and electric vehicles all set new highs.
Maruti Suzuki Sets New Benchmark
At the top of the chart was industry stalwart Maruti Suzuki, which posted an all-time monthly sales volume record of 220894 units in October 2025. Domestic sales alone hit an all-time 180675 units, a 10.75 % YoY gain compared to October 2024. The anchor compact segment of the industry maintained its strong performance, with Baleno, Swift, WagonR, Brezza, and Ertiga all pulling in strong sales. In contrast, the mini segment, which locally comprises the high-selling segment, including the Leader Alto and S-Presso, slumped. Maruti Suzuki accelerated production at its factories to provide a steady stream of vehicles to dealerships, taking advantage of the peak festival season.
Tata Motors and Mahindra Surge Ahead
Similarly, Tata Motors recorded an impressive 26.6% YoY at 74,732 units in passenger vehicle retail sales in October, taking the second spot. In contrast, M&M for the month led Tata by a considerable distance, and Hyundai Motor India Limited was left in third position, with two major rivals. Both M&M and Mahindra reported a 26% growth in dictations to send up 120,142 units. Mahindra’s SUVs sold a record 71,624 units, up 31 percent from 54,613 units last year, thanks largely to the launch of new variants of the Thar, Bolero, and Bolero Neo.
Hyundai and Kia Ride the Growth Wave
Hyundai Motor India sold 69,894 cars, with the Creta and Venue SUVs making up 30,119 of those sales. This indicates that Hyundai remains the leader in the SUV market. Kia India also had a record month, selling 29,556 units, thanks in large part to the Sonet, Carens Clavis, and Seltos models.
Two-Wheeler and EV Growth
TVS Motor Company sold a total of 543,000 units, exceeding expectations. This was due to a 10% increase in two-wheeler sales and an 11% increase in electric vehicle sales, indicating that more people are opting for EVs.
Festive Season Impact
The festive period, spanning 40 days from Navratri to Diwali, is a significant catalyst for consumer purchases. As reports revealed, more than 500,000 bookings and 410,000 units were retailed, each catered to by auto manufacturers. In addition, the favourable environment was enabled through increased demand and supportive GST implications, resulting in the automotive industry’s record performance.
Outlook
Given consumer sentiment and high-impact launches synced to festivals like Dussehra, Dhanteras, and Diwali, several senior industry executives expect retail sales growth for October to remain between 10% and 11%. It also demonstrates the strength and vitality of the Indian automotive market, which has recovered well across categories and manufacturers.
This historic month is expected to give the industry a boost for the remainder of 2025. Manufacturers will continue to develop new ideas and meet evolving customer needs with a diverse range of compact cars, SUVs, and electric vehicles.
October 2025 saw the highest monthly sales ever for Indian automakers. This is a turning point for the industry, thanks to consumer excitement, smart policy decisions, and a festive mood that has buyers flocking to showrooms nationwide.
