India Aadhaar Updates Go Fully Online From Nov 1: Here’s How
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

India will launch a full digital transformation of the Aadhaar update process, making it more accessible and efficient as of November 1, 2025. The system for updating key demographic parameters, including name, address, date of birth, and mobile number, will be available online on the myAadhaar portal, allowing Aadhaar cardholders to make changes without visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras or enrollment centers. At its core, reducing user burden is achieved through digital verification and inter-bank database checks, which are based on other government-issued data, such as the PAN card, passport, ration card, and driving license.

The changes noted by the Applicant, effective November 1, involve initiating a demographic update online in cases where the Aadhaar is connected to an active phone number. This latest criterion aligns with the new process, which requires all biometric changes, such as updates to fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, to necessitate an in-person visit to an Aadhaar centre for identity verification. The Applicant, in its case, was not mandated to make any demographic changes since almost all of them can be done from home today. This shift to digital-first means virtually no paperwork and fewer manual-oriented checks, making use of automated verification across various administrative tasks, which gives applicants more quickly and dependable updates.

Additionally, the UIDAI has introduced new fees for Aadhaar updates. Thus, demographic updates, such as name, address, and mobile number, will incur a charge of Rs 75. Biometric updates are now Rs 125. However, biometric updates are free for children aged 5-7 and 15-17 years old, while biometric features excluding fingerprints are also free. Updating via the online document system is free of charge until June 14, 2026; however, physical center services will be priced after this date. Moreover, a fee of Rs 40 will be charged for all Aadhaar reprint requests; various fees will also be applicable for home enrollment, etc.

The UIDAI also emphasized that Aadhaar must be mandatorily linked with PAN cards on or before December 31, 2025, and failure to do so will result in the deactivation of PAN from January 1, 2026. It is particularly imperative, as in the future, PANs not linked to Aadhaar may not be considered for tax and financial transactions, once again underlining the increasing unification of identification processes across the spectrum of government services.

Overall, it represents a clear trend toward digital and simplified processes in the area of Aadhaar updates, thus confirming the government’s trend of making its various services more accessible, secure, and efficient. This development implies a reduced need for physical visits and paperwork, and increased accuracy ensured through a computerized verification system.

Key Features of Aadhaar Online Update Process

  • An online process for updating demographic details, including a name, address, date of birth, and mobile number, by accessing the myAadhaar portal.
  • The mobile number must be registered and active to apply for Aadhaar updates online.
  • The biometric information can only be updated by visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
  • The applicant’s demographic data is verified through government-approved databases, including PAN, passport, driving license, and ration card.

The documents can be uploaded online and verified through an automatic process, thereby reducing manual intervention.

Revised Fee Structure (Effective November 1, 2025):

  • Rs 75 for demographic updates (name, address, mobile number).
  • Rs 125 for biometric updates (fingerprint, iris, photo), free for children (5-7 and 15-17 years).
  • Free online updates for documents until June 14, 2026.
  • Rs 40 for Aadhaar reprint.
  • Home enrolment service charges are applicable.

Important Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline:

  • All PAN cardholders must link their Aadhaar by December 31, 2025.
  • Non-linking results in PAN deactivation from January 1, 2026.
  • PAN card applications now require Aadhaar-based verification.

Benefits of the New System:

  • No need for physical visits for demographic updates.
  • A faster, more convenient, and secure update process.
  • Reduced paperwork and manual processing.
  • Enhanced data accuracy with digital verification.

This transformative update marks a significant step towards digital governance and user-centric service delivery in India’s identity management system.
