Vodafone Idea (Vi) declared on Friday that it would be increasing the cost of its mobile plans in India. The troubled telecom provider trailed rivals Reliance Jio and Airtel, who on Thursday and Friday, respectively, announced price increases for their postpaid and prepaid recharge programs. The three carriers aim to enhance their average revenue per user (ARPU), boost earnings, and recover the costs incurred in building out the 5G network infrastructure in the previous few years.
Price rise for the Vi Prepaid Recharge Plan
Similar to Airtel and Reliance Jio, Vi’s prepaid recharge plan subscribers will soon have to pay more to get the same calling and internet features as their current plan. It is noteworthy that although Vi’s most costly yearly recharge plan is Rs. 100 less than Airtel and Jio, it gives a lesser daily data allotment.
According to the operator, all plans that include a daily data allocation (except from the Rs. 299 plan) offer unlimited data between 12 and 6 a.m. as well as weekend data rollover.
Vi has had to maintain its prices in line with its largest competitors’ newly revised tariffs in order to stay competitive. Airtel declared on Friday that in order for the telecom operator to recoup its investment in 5G networks and guarantee a sufficient profit, its ARPU has to surpass Rs. 300.
Price increases for the Vi postpaid plan
Postpaid plan customers will also be required to pay an extra sum each month after the new prices take effect. In the near future, the Rs. 401 plan with 50GB of data will cost Rs. 451, while the Rs. 501 plan with 90GB of data per month would cost Rs. 551. Both of these plans include access to some over-the-top (OTT) services and limitless data usage at night.
In a similar vein, the operator said that the Family plans with two and four lines will also become more costly. The cost of the two-line plan, which offers 40 GB of data for the second number and 70 GB of data for the first, has increased from Rs. 601 to Rs. 701. The four-line package, which now costs Rs. 1,001 and will cost Rs. 1,201 when the new tariffs are implemented, has 140GB of data for the primary number and 40GB of data for each of the subsidiary numbers.

Similar to competitors Jio and Airtel, the operator has not yet updated these new rates on its website. The revised Vi prepaid recharge plan costs, as announced by Vodafone Idea, will take effect on July 4. Postpaid clients will notice the new plans when their next monthly bill arrives, while prepaid consumers will see the altered pricing when they recharge their phone number after that date.
