The Android 15 beta 3 update came out on Tuesday, and it added a lot of new features to Android phones. A report says that one of the new features in the update is a Device Diagnostics option in the settings menu that lets users test their phones to see if there are any problems with the parts inside them. It’s even possible that the option will let users test it on a different device, which would make it easier for smartphone owners to figure out what’s wrong with their phones without having to take them to a repair shop.
The Android 15 has a new Diagnostics menu.
With help from tipper Mishaal Rahman, Android Authority wrote about the new Device Diagnostics feature in the most recent Android beta update. The report says it’s in the device settings, below the Repair mode settings. There are two options it is said to have: Evaluation mode and Component health mode.
Users can run a number of diagnostics, such as a display test and a touch test, using the Component health option. It is said that this will let them swipe their finger across the screen and show them where their touch was registered. The report says that it also lets them check on the health of the battery by showing the battery status, the date it was made, the date it was first used, and the number of cycles. Users can also check on the data storage chip’s status, and the page tells them how long the chip has left to work.
Users say that the Evaluation mode, on the other hand, lets them use another smartphone to really test it out. The report says that they can make a QR code on the device that needs to be checked out and scanned with a phone they know and trust. Then it’s said to test the phone in a number of ways and make a report with information about any problems that might have happened.
The report says that some of the tests that are run in Evaluation mode might need the device to be connected to the internet. It is said that the Device Diagnostics menu was found by “tinkering” with the Android build on a Google Pixel smartphone. As of right now, the Android 15 beta 3 update only seems to work on Pixel 6 and later models.
