The news surrounding Apple’s exploration of a foldable form factor for its future iPhone has gained considerable traction recently. A new report indicates that the tech giant is not only focusing on a foldable iPhone but is also developing multiple devices featuring this innovative design. According to the report, Apple may unveil its first foldable device as early as 2026.
As reported by 9To5Mac, which cites insights from Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the company is currently working on both a foldable iPhone and a hybrid iPad-MacBook with a foldable display, both slated for a 2026 launch. The report highlights that Apple has recently entered into an agreement with Samsung to supply display panels for a flip-style foldable iPhone, reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Flip. Concurrently, Apple is also said to be developing an “All-screen MacBook” or a foldable iPad, featuring a main display size of approximately 18.8 inches. While these devices are still in the early stages of development, Analyst Jeff Pu has indicated that the foldable iPad/MacBook is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2026, whereas the foldable iPhone is anticipated to launch in late 2026.
Previously, reports suggested that Apple had reassigned some engineers from the Vision Pro headset project to focus on the development of foldable iPhones and iPads. Initially, it was believed that the launch of the foldable iPhone might be pushed to 2027 due to concerns regarding screen creasing and long-term durability.
In March, analyst Ming Chi Kuo also reported that Apple is working on a foldable MacBook, with a clear development timeline for a 20.3-inch model expected to enter mass production by 2027.
As the landscape of foldable devices continues to evolve, Apple’s anticipated offerings promise to usher in a new era of innovation.
