Since Russian suppliers offered heavy price discounts enabling Indian refiners to become substantial buyers of Russian crude oil, the latest US sanctions, coupled with shrinking price discounts and enhanced transaction risks, have forced Indian refiners to significantly reduce their reliance on Russian oil and seek alternative supplies, boosting imports from the United States and the Middle East. Although this shift is compulsory given the sanctions and US trade requirements, it might force India to spend more on imports, leading to slight inflation and pressure on fuel prices nationwide.
