Airbus has opened its Airbus India Technology Centre in Bengaluru, which is a big step forward for its technical and digital work in India. This cutting-edge building, which is 880,000 square feet in size, can hold about 5,000 people and is the center for engineering, digital transformation, customer service, and procurement.

Inauguration Highlights

The center launched on March 6, 2026, at Titanium Tech Park in Whitefield, Bengaluru. D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, and M.B. Patil, the Minister of Industries, were in charge of the event. Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, joined the event electronically.

Catherine Jestin, Airbus’s executive vice president, and Jürgen Westermeier, India’s managing director, were there for the occasion. Westermeier called the opening a “strategic acceleration” in Airbus’s journey in India, giving the company a chance to grow in the future.

Facility Features and Capacity

On the outskirts of Bengaluru, the 880,000 sq ft campus integrates all engineering and innovation across products, digital capabilities, customer services and procurement under a single roof. It is one of Airbus’s largest engineering and digital centres outside Europe, supporting the full lifecycle of its aircraft from maintenance to next-gen R&D.

The facility is dedicated to the optimization of existing commercial aircraft and helicopter programs and the aviation technology of tomorrow, which encompasses research in fields including cybersecurity, robotics, AI (artificial intelligence), next-generation flight. Indian engineers are now involved in global programs with contributions, such as design and development of critical components.

Strategic Importance for India

From running a specific unit to becoming a multi-dimensional hub, Airbus Bengaluru has grown exponentially in the last two decades. Developed as a part of India vision for ‘Make in India’ initiative, the new centre will bring more local expertise into Airbus’ global value chain.

Annual sourcing from India, having tripled in the period from $500 million in 2019 to over $1.5 billion today, is projected to exceed $2 billion by the end of this decade. More than 100 Indian companies provide components such as flap track beams, aircraft doors and helicopters fuselages for the assembly lines in India of C295 aircraft and H125 helicopters.

Economic and Industry Impact

The development enhances Bengaluru’s aerospace ecosystem, leading to thousands of high-tech engineering and digital jobs. Officials in Karnataka, where it is being built, hailed the deal as a landmark achievement that would make the state a global centre for innovation in aerospace, defence and IT. The centre will drive Airbus’s expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, which is forecast to triple and reach 2,250 aircraft by 2035 in India alone. It reaffirms Bengaluru’s attractiveness as a talent hub for aviation technology, promoting research and development in contemporary sectors like artificial intelligence and robotics.
